Welcome to Remembering Natalie.
This blog has been created by us, Natalie's mom and sisters, to share with all of you, glimpses of her amazing 23 years of life.
This is not meant to be a sad look back . . . but more a way to tell her story and keep her memory as bright as her life was.
Our hope is that here, you'll find good doses of laughter, her great recipes,
our random thoughts and memories, and maybe a few tears.
We are not what you would call the "pro-active" type . . .
but this is our attempt to aid in the awareness of DVT and Factor V Leiden,
the conditions that ended her life here on earth.
We hope you'll check in every-so-often, and if you have any stories of her . . . please, do tell!
If you didn't know Natalie, get to know her by reading her story found at the bottom of the page . . .
So thanks for visiting & come back as often as you'd like!

One day each of us will run out of tomorrows"

Studio 5 DVT Report

Melanie called yesterday and told me that Melanie Bloom, wife of the late David Bloom, had appeared on the show "Studio 5" that is broadcast in Utah.  If you aren't already familiar with his story, David Bloom was an NBC News Correspondent who was one of the "embedded" reporters just outside of  Baghdad when he died from complications of DVT.  Later they also found that he had the blood deficency Factor V Leiden, the same disorder that Natalie carried.  Here is a link to the article on Studio 5's website.  Check it out, it has some good information.   As we like to say...be informed, this is more common than you may realize.

* One more thing-
Check this out.  I remember hearing this read on the news after he died and I was able to find it.  What a great man he must have been.

I remember when this news broke...how it caught my attention and how saddened I was. Funny how in my mind I always thought Natalie had her DVT and PE before David Bloom...then I see here that his occured the same year but 5 months prior to Natalie....the similarities are chilling....a DVT following long travel etc...riding in a vehicle for long lengths of time...
These DVT's can be prevented with awareness...keep the blood flowing..during long flights, get up walk around...when traveling by car, stop often and walk around...
I sound like a over protective Mother right?...I hope so.
Love you Natalie..forever, Mom.

I went to high school with Natalie, and was so sad when I heard about her passing while I was serving a mission in Swizterland. I have checked out this blog before, and also saw the Studio 5 piece. I thought of you all when I saw it.
